THE RIGHT TREES IN THE RIGHT PLACE
This workstream focuses on the profitable and sustainable integration of forestry into existing grazing businesses. Specific focuses include:
- Counting forestry into the mix when designing land use. For example we use Land Use Capability mapping to support land use decisions and design forestry, grazing and other enterprises into the same farm system.
- Information on the Emissions Trading Scheme and other afforestation incentives, including actual case studies of financial implications.
- Knowing what a ‘designed approach’ to forestry on farms looks like – aimed at the best outcome from multiple land use enterprises on the same site.
- Balancing with work on farm systems so that forestry and grazing are compared on their merits; how forestry can complement and de-risk other parts of the farming business.
